Level: Try your hand at sculpture. All levels of sculpture and functional hand building experience welcome - adult classes only.

During this course you will be guided through various methods of sculpting with clay. You will gain experience using pinch, coil, moulds and slab techniques to construct your projects, as well as learning how to apply a variety of appropriate sculptural finishes to your work. We will begin with functional and decorative coil pots and then progress through slab construction and using moulds. The final project will be a more complex figurative sculpture.

With these techniques you will have a foundation to expand your knowledge and skills, be able to practise and create more pieces using your own expression. You will also learn about safe studio practices including the potential hazards of silica.

Short nails are preferrable for ceramic work. Classes start on time. Please allow a thorough 15 minute clean-up of your workspace and the studio before the class period ends.

What to bring:

Enclosed shoes, apron & plastic bags to cover work - and a sense of curiosity. For more experienced potters bring your own tools if you have, or tools can be purchased on the day for $10. Limited tools are available in the studiofor use by all students.

This course includes clay, use of the studio glazes and the firing of items made during the class term.

Bring your own project ideas of what you would like to create. Keeping a visual diary handy is useful for sketching ideas and taking notes as you progress.

We only fire to 1260 degrees (High fire). No earthenware or Mid-firing glazes permitted to be used in this course.

Sessions run consecutively; we are sorry there are no make-up classes if sessions are missed.
