This is a dynamic and fun short course where you will explore some of the possibilities of hand built table ware. Three different methods of construction and decoration, over three weeks, followed by one week for finishing and glazing.

Hand building methods will explore the use of slabs, moulds, coiling and making organic shapes. You can make cups, bowls, plates and platters.

Decoration will include underglazing, sgraffitto, “found” textures and glaze transfers, plus the exploration of suitable glaze finishes.

Short nails are preferrable for ceramic work. Classes start on time. Please allow a thorough 15 minute clean-up of your workspace and the studio before the class period ends.

What to bring:

Enclosed shoes, apron & plastic bags to cover work - and a sense of curiosity. For more experienced potters bring your own tools if you have, or tools can be purchased on the day for $10. Limited tools are available in the studio for use by all students.

This course includes clay, use of the studio glazes and the firing of items made during the class.

Bring your own project ideas of what you would like to create. Keeping a visual diary handy is useful for sketching ideas and taking notes as you progress.
