You will have the scope to create a new creature, or develop your sculpture based on a creature of interest. Perhaps you would like to focus on the unique textures of shells in your work, the world is your oyster!
Students will learn hand building and under glazing techniques and skills related to the topic of additive and subtractive sculpture. These skills can be transferred to many other hand building and sculpture applications.

Day 1 -Students will be introduced to the world underwater with a selection of images of crustaceans, shells and interesting creatures of the sea. They will use clay to explore the textures found on shells, sea urchins and sea creatures. Additive and subtractive sculptural techniques will be taught. Students will plan and create a sculpture of their own version of a sea creature or shell. They will incorporate the unique textures they have developed to enhance the finish of their work.
Day 2 - Completion of clay sculpture with an emphasis on the use of texture to represent the patterns and features of the creature or shell. Underglaze/staining techniques will be taught and be applied to complete their work.
The works will be dried over a couple of weeks and then bisque fired. After bisque firing the works will be dipped in white or clear glaze by the tutor. Work will be ready for collection approximately 3-4 weeks after the course completion.
Clay, Underglazes, Glaze, Bisque and Glaze firing of sculpture will be provided. Please bring an apron, towel and wear enclosed shoes
