Empty Bowls Project
Empty Bowls is a worldwide movement that raises funds for local charities. In Perth the project raises funds for Foodbank at an annual lunch event held at ChristChurch Grammar School. Local potters from all over Western Australia contribute soup bowls which are sold, filled with soup, at the lunch event. South of the River Potters’ Club has participated in the event for several years. In 2024 the event raised more than $30,000 for Foodbank.
In 2021 the South of the River Potters’ Club participated again and contributed to the total of 645 soup bowls that were produced by WA potters. The SORPC stall attracted a lot of attention and admiration of the members’ pots - and a few sales too!
In 2025 the Club has held a ‘bow-a-thon’ where a large group of members gathered in the studio and collectively produced about 70 bowls towards our planned contribution of 100 bowls this year. Another group event will take place in a few weeks to glaze them all.
