Proposed Iconic Australian & Native Christmas Ornament Workshop over two weekends
First Workshop - Making:
Time: 4 hours
Workshop Description and Details:
Create up to 5 detailed and unique 2D and 3D Australian-inspired and native Christmas ornaments using a range of techniques, including hand sculpting, layering, piping, using cutters for 2D ornaments, and creating basic coloured Nerikomi patterns to decorate and add texture and detail. All ornaments will be fitted with high-fire Nichrome hooks for easy hanging. Each Christmas ornament will be demonstrated, and students will follow along step by step.
Students can expect to make some of the following:
Gumnut, Gum leave, 3D Echidna, 3D Pavlova and 2D black Cockatoos
Material: All material will be supplied, including hooks, cutters and coloured clay, slip and piping bags
Firing Temperature: Bisque firing
What to bring: basic tools and an apron
Second Workshop - Special glazing and decorating:
Time: 2-3 hours
Workshop Description and Details:
Decorate bisque-fired ornaments made at the first workshop using a number of special supplied glazes, engobes and decoration techniques.
Material: All glazes and engobes will be supplied
Firing Temperature: Mix of high-fire and mid-fire
What to bring: Small brushes and an apron
