SLAB BUILDING USING TEMPLATES AND MARBLED CLAY

In this workshop we will be marbling 3 different natural coloured clays.

We will cut out patterns or templates which will then be joined to make either a lantern, lidded vessel or organic free form vessel.

SKILLS COVERED

  •  Mixing natural coloured clay bodies to create agate-ware patterns.

  •  Rolling and joining slabs with free-form marbling.

  •  Using templates to cut desired shapes.

  •  Constructing 3D forms.

  •  Working with texture.

Option to carve or pierce the surface to enhance the marbled patterns.

This finished piece could be a decorative lantern, lidded vessel, tea caddy, keepsake jar or sculptural piece.

Materials provided:

2 or 3 different coloured clays

Your finished pieces will be bisque fired.

Additional costs will apply for glaze firings.

Materials/tools to bring:

Please bring along your usual pottery tools and a rolling pin. (I don’t have a slab roller)

A couple of ware boards to put your work on

Plastic wrap to cover your work for drying

Bring along a plate to share for lunch.

If it is a cold day please rug up as we will be working outside in my undercover area.
