T3 Lauren Jane Salt - Sculpture and hand building with paper clay. Mornings - Thursday 9-12 noon. 24th July - Sept 11
Taught by Boorloo-based artist Lauren Jane Salt, this course explores sculptural form-building using earthenware paper clay– a versatile clay body with a long working time, ideal for sculptural exploration and refinement.
Over eight weeks, we’ll delve into practical techniques and creative approaches to sculpting with paperclay, drawing from the methods Lauren uses in their own ceramic practice. From structural design to surface treatment, this course offers a space to develop your own sculptural voice while learning to work with the unique properties of paperclay.
Together, we’ll explore ways of thinking through material—embracing both control and experimentation in the making process.

Lauren Jane Salt
b. NT, Australia, 1994
Lauren Jane Salt is a multidisciplinary artist based in Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia. Her practice explores the interplay between transformation, mythology, and identity—shaped by her ancestry and a background in floristry.
Working primarily with ceramics and organic materials, Salt creates sculptural works that trace cycles of growth, decay, and renewal, offering quiet reflections on personal and collective realms. She began working with clay in 2014 at North Metropolitan TAFE, where her background in ikebana and floristry naturally informed her approach to form and composition. In 2015, she studied under Master Florist Gregor Lersch in Germany, and in 2017 was awarded WA's “Florist of the Future” by the Interflora National Competition. Her floristry background continues to inform her compositional approach to clay. From 2015 to 2024,
From 2015 to 2024, Salt co-directed VOLIM—a collaborative label with fashion designer Tia Tokić—merging ceramics, textiles, and botanical design. Their final exhibition, Voće, was presented at Goolugatup Heathcote as part of the 2024 Indian Ocean Craft Triennial.
In 2025, Salt presented her debut solo exhibition Crossing Portals at Lightworks Gallery, a body of work exploring emotional, cultural, and mythological thresholds through ceramic sculpture.
In addition to her solo practice, Salt teaches hand-building and ceramic sculpture at Farmer Street Studio in North Perth, fostering a hands-on and reflective approach to creative learning.
