from A$270.00

Masterclass - Coil and Throw - 2 days plus glazing session

Friday November 7th & Saturday November 8th 10am - 4 pm

plus Saturday November 29th 9am-12noon glazing.

SORPC Members $270 Non-members $300 10 places

Ready to go bigger with your pots? This two-session class is for those confident throwing over 1kg. You must be able to confidently throw a substantial base for your coil and throw pot.

Learn coil-and-throw techniques to build taller, wider vessels on a thrown base using extruded clay. Finish your piece across both sessions. Glazing included in a separate class later in the month.

The coil and throw technique is a pottery method where clay is shaped by stacking hand-rolled coils onto a thrown base, then smoothing and refining the form on the wheel. It combines hand- building’s creative freedom with wheel-throwing’s precision, allowing potters to create unique, organic vessels with excellent structural strength and decorative potential.

What is included:

Clay, glaze and firing.

You will select 1 pot to be fired. Max size to be discussed in class. Please bring a drawing of the shape of object you would like to make.

Robert was inspired to start making pottery when living in South Africa and seeing the work of Donve Branch. After taking his first lesson he was hooked, and ceramics is now one of his passions in life.

He loves turning earthenware, constantly pushing the boundaries - refining the size and shapes of the pots he produces. He is inspired by Chinese and Japanese shapes and forms. He has studied with a wide range of teachers including Cher Shackleton, Stewart Scambler and Jackie Masters .

Robert is currently teaching at Potteroo and Andrew Tremain Ceramics He has shown his work at many group exhibitions and at a dual exhibition in Northbridge.
